New Rules Flying with Batteries |
| Effective January 1, 2008, the Department of Transportation (DOT) through the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) will no longer allow loose lithium batteries in checked baggage.
Why : Loose batteries in an overhead baggage compartment caused a fire on a JetBlue flight on February 10, 2007 while on March 18, 2007 a battery overheated and ignited on an American Airlines flight from Argentina. Both aircraft landed safely |

Please note that all OMS Lithium batteries are permitted to be placed in carry on or checked luggage as long as they are installed in the OMS flashlight or Canister light system. All connections to the battery must be disconnected. For the Flashlights a non conductive disc (available from OMS) must be installed to prevent activation (turning on) of the flashlight for either carry on or check in luggage. NOTE: It is forbidden by the Dept. Of Transportation to transport any OMS batteries in checked luggage if they are not installed in the lighting system.
